The estate
Our story.
- Certified organic since 1994
- Biodynamics and strictly traditional vinifications
- Long ageing in large used casks, no new wood
In La Morra, on the finest hillsides of Barolo, the Oberto family has been farming Erbaluna for three generations. In 1994 the estate switched to certified organic farming, then progressively to biodynamics.
The tiny, fragmented vineyard covers barely 10 hectares planted to Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto, worked by hand with very low yields and strictly traditional vinifications: long macerations, large used casks, no concession to oaky fashion.
The outcome: Barolos of pure tension, saline, almost crystalline, a world away from the caricature of heavy, oaky Barolo.
Erbaluna embodies the new Burgundy of Piedmont: small production, terroir above all, absolute transparency.
